The bare-bones Tempest based GTO was standard with a 3-speed manual floor-mounted transmission. Pontiac tweaked the package with some other performance enhancements and voila - the introduction of the world to the GTO. With the advent of the new emerging youth market in the s some base level cars became equipped with a standard 3-speed manual floor-mounted shifter. By the s the manual shifter moved from the floor to the steering column.Īnd by the s when automatic transmissions became popular, the automatic transmission gear shifter was also found on the steering column. As cars and work trucks progressed from the Model T the floor-mounted transmission shifter became the industry standard. The Model T was the vehicle that introduced the masses to the driving motion of the left foot pressing a clutch pedal in conjunction with the right hand shifting the transmission via a floor-mounted shifter. It was a primitive car but it had a third foot pedal the clutch pedal and a floor-mounted manual transmission shifter. To understand the history of the floor-mounted 3-speed, one has to go back to the first mass produced car - the Ford Model T. Not only was this the case with most years of the GTO but also with many other muscle cars during this era. Take a closer look at GT.Anyone new to the the muscle car hobby will quickly stumble across a golden era muscle car with a floor-mounted 3-speed manual transmission.Įven though most GTO Judges were equipped with either the optional 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission, the 3-speed manual was the standard transmission. GT is a global supplier of transmissions for outdoor power equipment. Our goal is to design integrated, efficient systems for supply chain simplicity and dependable delivery across the world. We make single-speed systems more reliable, variable-speed transmissions smoother, ride-on transmissions stronger, and snow transmissions easier to use. GT designs and produces best-in-class transmissions, variators, clutches and differentials for lawn and snow equipment. The transmission itself is protected by its Vault housing, a glass fiber reinforced composite case that resists impact, heat, cold, heavy loads and torque. Simple single-lever control makes operation easy. Our transmissions use heavy-duty, maintenance-free belts that are built to handle extreme loads and acceleration in rugged conditions. Unlike hydrostatic drives, there are no seals or filters, no maintenance, and no affect from heat or cold. Why anyone would bag when you can use gator blades and turn everything into dust I don't know.It automatically adjusts speed to demand, delivering seamless power and acceleration as needed. They are made to keep the grass under the deck. Joined Aug 11, Threads 66 Messages 6, Gator blades are the best to mulch with. But if you mulch all the time like it sounds like you do, they would be a good thing to get. I think the Gator Blades would decrease the performance if you are bagging. I bag a lot in the fall, and it would be a pain to have to switch the blades then. I have heard a lot of good things about Gator Blades, but I do not use them.
Have you checked to make sure there is no debris stuck in between the tires? On mine, I use my blower to get all the grass out from there and it helps, but still is a little hard to pull backwards. When I first get it out of the storage shed the rear wheels WILL NOT roll backward - rolls forward easily - it is only after using the drive system to mow for about 15 - 30 minutes that I can back up with much resistance.Īnyone have a similar problem or make suggestions? Any thoughts? Joined Jun 8, Threads Messages 6, I have the same mower, and also the same problem. How to: Lock a Trans-axle or Differentialĭisengaging the drive to pull the mower back the rear wheels are very difficult to roll backward.
